Compare GTmetrix

Apogee Watcher vs GTmetrix

GTmetrix excels at real-browser lab diagnosis with many test locations. Watcher is built for ongoing multi-site PageSpeed Insights monitoring with organisations, discovery, and roles when slot maths stops fitting the client list.

At a glance

Topic GTmetrix Apogee Watcher
Time to setup (estimated) ~10–20 min for first monitors; grows as you add slots, locations, and devices ~15–30 min for first org, sites, discovery, and a weekly schedule
Test engine Real Chrome browser; Lighthouse-based scores Google PageSpeed Insights API
Locations Many global servers (number depends on plan) Via Google PageSpeed Insights infrastructure
Monitoring unit Monitored slots (URL + analysis options) Sites, pages, monthly test quota
Team seats (self-serve) Expert lists 5 seats; lower tiers single-seat Unlimited team members on published paid tiers
Entry public pricing Lite from $5.99/mo ($4.99/mo yearly) $9 Personal → Growth $42 → $199 Agency

Time to setup is an estimate for a first useful monitoring configuration (not a full portfolio migration or enterprise rollout). Your stack, tag access, and URL count will change it.

What GTmetrix does better

  • Real Chrome lab tests with waterfalls and video-style evidence
  • Many global test locations (number depends on plan)
  • Familiar reports for one-off audits and geographic checks
  • API and MCP access on PRO tiers for custom workflows
  • Low-cost entry when you only need a handful of monitors

What Watcher does better

  • Multi-organisation setup with Admin / Manager / Viewer
  • Automated discovery instead of only manual monitored slots
  • Site- and test-quota pricing shaped for agency client lists
  • Unlimited team members on published paid tiers
  • Ongoing schedules and budgets instead of slot-limited monitors alone

Who each is best for

  • GTmetrix: Debugging a URL or small monitor set, especially with location or connection options.
  • Apogee Watcher: Scheduled Core Web Vitals and PageSpeed Insights coverage across many client sites with shared team access.
  • Often use both: Use Watcher as the main place you track all client sites; open GTmetrix when you need regional waterfall debugging.

From gtmetrix.com/pricing (17 Oct 2026), USD. Monthly: Lite $5.99 (1 slot), Core $11.99 (3), Advanced $29.99 (10), Expert $59.99 (50). Yearly (~2 months free): ~$4.99 / $9.99 / $24.99 / $49.99. Slot = URL + analysis options with monitoring on. Hub rows use the same ~5 URLs × 2 devices assumption as Watcher (~10 slots per site); homepage-only (2 slots per site) would fit Advanced at 5 sites / Expert at 10–20 but undercounts that shared assumption. At ~10 slots per site: 5 → Expert, 10 → about 100 slots (quote), 20 → about 200 (quote). Snapshot date: 17 Oct 2026. Vendor pricing: GTmetrix pricing · Watcher pricing

Switch / setup from GTmetrix

  1. 1. Export monitored URLs (note device and location options).
  2. 2. Recreate sites in Watcher and run discovery beyond the old slot list.
  3. 3. Keep GTmetrix for deep regional debugging on problem URLs.

F.A.Q.

What is a GTmetrix monitored slot?

Per GTmetrix: each URL paired with analysis options (location, device, connection, etc.) that has monitoring enabled uses one slot. The same URL monitored as desktop in Seattle and mobile in San Antonio is two slots—not one site. Adding more locations or devices multiplies slots further.

Does Watcher replace GTmetrix locations?

No. Watcher uses Google’s PageSpeed Insights infrastructure. Keep GTmetrix when you need to pick specific test regions for diagnosis.

How do we price-compare fairly?

The hub ranks GTmetrix on the same ~5 URLs × mobile + desktop assumption as Watcher (~10 slots per site). Expert’s 50 slots cover about five such sites; 10 sites ≈ 100 slots and 20 ≈ 200—both need a custom PRO plan. Homepage-only monitoring (2 slots/site) is cheaper but undercounts the shared scenario. Monthly list (17 Oct 2026): Advanced $29.99 (10 slots), Expert $59.99 (50 slots); yearly ≈ two months free.
